Course Details

This unit completes the skillset CUASS00064 - Specialist Entertainment Rigging Skill Set (Arena).

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to plan and undertake rigging work for productions in arena work environments. It involves identifying and planning arena rigging requirements, inspecting equipment and completing set up tasks, and assembling and dismantling rigging and associated equipment.

The unit applies to those who work collaboratively in a team environment as they take responsibility for ensuring that rigging and associated equipment is assembled in line with safety standards, prior to performances or events, and for ensuring it is dismantled following performances or events. They may be responsible for supervising others.

Different work tasks within a live production environment may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering a construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (Commonwealth of Australia, 2007). Achievement of the unit ‘CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’ fulfils this requirement.

HOURS OF STUDY/REQUIREMENTS

This unit will comprise approx. 4 hours of classroom based study (which may be completed online if available) followed by two practical blocks.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

  • assemble and dismantle rigging for at least one production.

In the course of the above, the candidate must:

  • interpret rigging requirements and plan installation tasks
  • conduct work safely at heights
  • work collaboratively with others during assembly and dismantling
  • follow safe work practices including wearing fitted and safety equipment when completing work tasks
  • use applicable mathematical techniques to complete required calculations.
