Course Details

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to conduct in-service safety testing of electrical cord connected equipment and cord assemblies.

You will be required to demonstrate working safely, using a portable appliance tester (PAT), identifying faults, applying tagging, arranging for repair of faulty equipment and completing testing documentation.

This training course includes the unit UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace, which is a requirement of the training. There is no additional cost for this unit.

You will be required to demonstrate personal awareness of OHS legislative requirements, and the basic principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness in the electrical industry.

At the completion of this course, you will be sent a Statement of Attainment plus a plastic wallet card.

Hours of Study

This is a classroom (face to face) delivery, and is conducted weekly and by request. This is a full day (approx 8 hrs) training course. It is delivered in two sessions - the morning session starts at 8am and runs til about 12 (noon), and covers the work health and safety requirements of the skillset. The second session starts to about 12:30 and runs until about 4pm and covers the test and tag testing elements.

Resources Required

  • All course materials are provided to the student in printed format, but may be available in electronic format for assessments.
  • Assessments will be completed on site during the training sessions.

You are required to have:

  • A moderate level of literacy and numeracy

Additional Information

This in a fully accredited course run by a Registered Training Organisation. This is not a familiarisation course. At the completion of this course, you will have a Statement of Attainment that is registered against your Unique Student Identification (USI) number (which is the national student database of all your training). This course does NOT allow you to work in the Test and Tag industry in Queensland. You will still need to hold an electrical licence to do this work for profit or gain. This course does NOT allow you to maintain, fault find or repair any electrical equipment unless you hold an electrical licence.
